Have you ever used CVS/Target to develop/print your 120 film?

I know that Walmart has a send-out service that could x-pro your 120 film, but I don’t have any Walmarts around here (I live in NYC).
And, if I go to one of those photography stores like B&H, they charge almost $15 per roll of 120 film, so it’s ridiculously expensive.
Has anyone ever gone to CVS or Target to have their 120 film developed/printed (and x-pro)? How much does it cost?

If you take it to any 1-hour photo lab, they will have to mail it out to get it processed. I don’t know of any 1-hour photo lab that can develop 120 film. Most of them can only develop 35mm or 110 film. So why not just mail it out yourself? Look online for a professional photo lab. There are a ton of professional photo labs that will develop 120 film, but you just have to look. You’re not going to be able to drop it off at Walgreens, Walmart, Target, etc.

I would suggest Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas. They have a website, just look it up on Google. They sell and develop all kinds of film (including 120, and even 8mm and 16mm movie film). I’ve never had 120 film developed there yet, but the last time I saw the prices for processing, it seemed reasonable. It was definitely less than $15 per roll! That is ridiculous. I think it was around $10 at MOST. It was about a month ago when I saw their price list for processing, and I just remember that I wasn’t really shocked. It seemed reasonable. The thing you will have to keep in mind is that it WILL be more expensive than 35mm. That’s just a fact you’ll have to accept. You can find labs that have more reasonable prices, but it’s still going to be more expensive than 35mm. It just costs more to develop…for one thing, 120 film uses more chemicals because of the larger size.

I would say around $7- $12 is more reasonable. $15 per roll is crazy! In fact, Dwayne’s Photo will process 8mm movie film for less than that! Movie film is a lot harder and more expensive to develop than regular print (picture) film. They have to develop it, then split and splice the film together. But even for that, they only charge $12 to process 8mm or Super-8 film. So 120 print film should be cheaper. Like I said, expect maybe around $7 – $10.

(MAYBE $12 at the very MOST).

Don’t get frustrated or disappointed. Just keep looking online and you can find a lab with reasonable prices.

By the way, if you ever decide to try black and white film, you should learn to develop it yourself. It’s actually really easy, a lot easier than you might think.
