Capturing the aurora on video?

Hi, ive taken some great stills photos of the aurora borealis, can anyone tell me how to film it on video. Im a avid amateur photographer and would greatly appreciate any info by anyone skilled in video filming. I would assume ( wirth my knowledge from photography) that i would need a camera with zero lux and a large aperture but are there any consumer cameras capable of this? ANY help would greatly appreciated !,
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this even if you cant answer my question !
: )

On film still cameras, I find 5 to 20 second at f3.5 gave a nice exposure (200 ASA). Which would make film movie REALLY hard without a massive lens.

But video cameras use CCDs and they are very sensitive in low light (hence the ability to film indoor without special lighting). So I’d look at the reviews of different video cameras for their low-light performance. The is no particular lower limit, physicists use CCDs to detect single electrons. Just whether a manufacturer has allowed for such a broad range of light levels (in their software, etc).

There’s a young guy in Fairbanks who posts webcams of the aurora (once they start getting dark nights again).

Maybe just ask him what he uses. http://www.aurorawebcam.com/
