How long did it take you to discover photography as your creative outlet?
I tried drawing, music, painting, writing….and was fairly good at most (except music).
My first digital camera was a Sony Mavica FD75 that took floppy disk that rocked like 3mp I think.
She gave it to me to use for parties, trips…so on and so forth. I found myself seeing things that others didn’t see in things around me and documenting it. Eventually, I always had that camera with me no matter where I was going or what I was doing and found opportunities everywhere I looked.
Now, a number of years later that fire has only grown with no signs of stopping. My personality is somewhat fickle with hobbies. I’ll do something a while and then stop….but photography has been the only thing that I have had NO desire to walk away from. On the contrary, I find myself constantly wanting to shoot.
So when did you discover it within yourself that you had a passion for this art? Why photography? Did you try other things prior to it?
It took me 11 years
as a child I grew up trying all sorts of things- I ne’er completed them. I started one thing, grew fond of it then gave up
I always had loved art. Mostly drawing. I drew all the time but as I grew up I started realising that there was nothing special about it. I realized that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I pretended to and to be honest I wasn’t even that good. That’s when I discovered photography
to me it was like I had created my own language. And noone else could speak it but they could see how wonderful it was. I spent all of my time holding
a camera. I took classes and entered competitions. I won awards and upgraded cameras constantly. Soemtiems I would spend hours trying to take the perfect photo. Even when I was satisfied with it I had to try again to make the composition even more perfect. To make the photo have more depth.
Now everywere I go I have to take the camera with me. You never know when you’ll need it and I’m so sick of saying god I wish I had My camera with me.
It’s so cliche but a picture really does say a thousand words
